A neighbor dropped this 4 foot cherry log off at my place today. Most fruit orchard cherry trees around here are very old when they are cut down and are hollow in the middle. This one must not be so old because it only shows a slight amount at the bottom end and the top end is solid all the way through.
I am going to cut it into three or four pieces with my chainsaw in the next day or so and seal the ends with anchorseal.
I am kind of anxious to see what it looks like on the inside and if it will be suitable for some nice turnings. If it ins't much good it is not a loss because I heat my home with wood.
I took the picture in the evening with poor lighting and only from one side. It has more burls than what shows.
Gotta love turning for all the free wood that people like to part with.
