A Sad Sad Loss
On June 19, 2006 I lost a friend, a mentor, a buddy---- My DAD. He finally succumbed to the many illnesses that plagued him and challenged him over the last 5 years. I say though he always beat back the odds and pulled through but the last one was too much for his tired 82 year old body. The decisions my family had to make over this period of time were trying and difficult. But they were done out of respect and love for a man that always carried a smile and kind word. He could make you smile and feel good about yourself even on your worst days. He always had a song to sing, a poem to recite, or give you a yodel. Being an avid country music fan and Johnny Cash his favorite, he passed this tidbit on to me. For this I thank him for. He is also responsible for my love of woodworking because he taught me the use of the tools and how to take a pile of wood and turn it into a work of art. For this I am thankful for. He helped me make my decision of a vocation I wanted to undertake as my livelihood, which was Electrician. For this I thank him for. He is also responsible for my becoming an avid NY Yankee fan as he was, taking me to my first game some 45 years ago. For this I thank him for. He also loved his fishing and crabbing but this was one thing that never took hold of me but I thank him for the good times together. As a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII he taught me to love this country and all it’s freedoms and for this I thank him. He also instilled many of his good traits and life surviving skills and this I thank him for.
I know my Dad is in a better place now and can finally get the rest he deserves. I only hope I can live up to the standards that he had set. With a heavy heart I say I will miss my Dad a great deal.
At this time I want to say “Thank You” to all that have emailed me or PM me and offered their kind words and prayers. It meant a lot.
I know this is a woodworking forum but I needed a place to let some emotions out and this place has been good to me over the years so to all Thank You for allowing me this moment. I will be returning to the site as soon as possible.
