Does anyone know where I can get a 1"x12tpi to 1"x8tpi headstock spindle adapter?
I have a Grizzley VS Swivel head lathe that I got because it was exactly the right lathe for me (size, weight, etc) and for what I wanted to do with it. Since my shop is an unheated outdoor shed I didn't feel it would be wise to spend $1200 or more on a deluxe model. Besides, it runs like a swiss watch, has plenty of power and has never given me a minute of grief.
Unfortunately the spindle is 1"x12tpi and just about every accessory I need is available only in 1"x8tpi or 3/4"x16tpi. I searched all over for a set of flat jaws that would fit my chuck but they didn't exist.
In desparation, I contacted PennState Ind even though every time I ordered anything from them, there was a problem with the order, with shipping or with the product delivered.
They had a complete chuck system including flat jaws on sale and although it was 1"x8tpi, they had a new item that would resolve all my problems: a 1"x12tpi to 1"x8tpi headstock spindle adapter. The adapter was on back order and would be in on Sept 14 but they could ship the chuck system immediately and send the adapter as soon as it came in.
After waiting two weeks I called and was told that the adapters were now due in November 17... But that's what it's always been with PSI....
So now that I'm stuck with a chuck that's currently useless to me and there is no guarantee that the adapters will ever really come in, does anyone know another source for an adapter?

I did not see this post. Here is a site that might help you. If you look half way down on the page. http://bestwoodtools.stores.yahoo.net/precspinad.html

Thanks WWC and JT...
I went to the link JT sent me and they promised to make one and ship it on Monday for <$65 which is more than twice what PSI wants but it's easily worth the extra money to be able to use the chuck next week instead of waiting till Thanksgiving....

Mail order and Web order prices for our hobby tend to be on the high side but I've learned that if you run comparisons you'll find that vendors who want your eye-teeth for their pen kits often have great prices on finishing products and the guy who want's an ounce of gold for french polish may very well have a great deal on gouges or something else.

There's definitely a lot to be said for research...

I know that guy is very reliable. Here is another site that I am not sure has what you were looking for so this is why I hesitated to post it. They are cheaper but you would have to call them. http://www.woodenpost.com/products/change_spindle_size_on_lathe.htm
