I've built RC airplanes on and off throughout the years. One of the greatest time savers has been the invention of different thicknesses of CyanoAcrylate (sp?) glues.
I always have a bottle of each in the shop and use it for all kinds of different uses in woodworking.

Have you ever tried Polyurethane glue for glueing up the pen blanks , it does take a little more time to set but I have found that some , if not all , CD glues don't give you enough time to get everything set the way you want it ?
The Poly glue works great for pens as it will fill any gaps that might appear . I find that if I "breath" into the wood blanks befor I assemble them that this works like a charm as Poly glue is made to work better when 1 side of your work is moist .

I have used both ca and polyurethane glues and personally I like to use devcon 2 ton epoxy on mine, it gives you @ 30 mins to work with after mixing and makes a tremendous bond
