This is walnut wood that was donated to me by a fellow in a near by village. Got some ugly knots in a couple of them so I will either give those two away or sell them real cheap at a craft sale.
After hollowing them out and finding the knots near the bottom I didn't want to toss them out so I just kept turning them to finish them off. It makes for lots of turning practice if nothing else.

I think the peanuts are going to fall out of a couple of those bowls. :)

John;
I agree they do look like holes in the picture. But they are filled and just as smooth as the rest of the bowls. The knots were of the loose porous variety so what I did was grind them out with a burr bit on my dremmel tool and mixed what came out with 2 part epoxy and then packed it all back into the cavities. Let it cure overnight and it was good to continue turning and sanding.

The knots in the final projects sometimes add a bit of character to it and may help it sell. At the Yankee peddler festival here there was a woodworker that all his cabinets and shelves had some form of "natural defect" from small knot holes to rough edges sides and he seemed to be doing good business.

That touch of uniqueness does seem to catch the buyer's attention. I did a show in August and brought along eight bowls just to see if they would move. Of the eight, five had bark inclusions, rough edge knots or natural voids and I sold four of them to other crafters before the doors even opened. The fifth one went to the second customer to visit my booth. I wound up bringing the remaining three home with me.
Now that I'm actually looking for those rough pieces of stock, I rarely find them... :confused:

Thanks Gunny.
I posted the same message on the Turning board in my Woodworking Friends discussion boards site and most responses were similar to yours in that the knots add character . I hope it works that way for me. I will find out next month because I have booked three craft sales within the past week all in November.
