As a first try at using acrylics I found that there is quite a learning curve to it compared to wood. First one I tried I made a wrong measurement on one of the blanks and that turned that one into garbage. Next one I got a blow out on the lathe . Perhaps the tube was not glued properly or else I was too aggressive in my cutting action . Both of those incidences were from my own carelessnes and I have nobody to blame but myself.
So learning from those two I proceeded with a couple more. It took a while to get used to those yard long curly shavings wrapping themselves all around it while turning.
Although I much prefer to turn wood, I believe there will be a market for these because not evryone are wood lovers like the majority of us are here. And the finish and appearnce on acryliic is outstanding
I think I have pretty well got it down pat now on how to turn them without the previous mistakes and I am looking forward to receiving the balance of my order that is coming from Lee valley.
Those kits sure are easy to put together after figuring out the first one. It just takes a few minutes to assemble the parts into the barrels.

This site sure is playing tricks on me. Yesterday I showed a picture of a walnut pen using the El Grande kit for the first time . The pictures previewed in the message and after trying twice the topic never came up.
Now today it only allows links to the pictures for these two I just finished this morning.
Hope this message shows after I hit submit.

We have had this discussion before. If you remember when you are in a forum and want to respond to a thread or post a new one with pictures, if the little picture with the mountain scene is not present it will not accept photos. You can also scroll down a little ways and see if the IMG button is on. If not then no photos. As for your other pen by the way came out very well and photograghed well is under "Turning" thread. Now why all forums do not have the IMG enabled is beyond my control. Now if you do post picures where you have the other pen give us a break down to the difference of using both materials and the finishing process also.

Thanks John for the heads up on that. I hadn't realized that one was in turning and one was in pens . Most sites include pens under turning. So many different boards must have got me all confusicated (new word in Websters dictionary) :D .. Senior monents could have also had something to do with it.
If anyone has any questions under either one of my posts fire away and I will answer when I get time.
Right now my wife wants to take me out for dinner. She's buying. Ya... Hooo . . . How can I refuse a deal like that. ;)
