It seems everyone is pretty experienced doing shows here. I have only had one show and one scollsaw demonstrating day. I would really like some ideas on displaying projects. what people have found works. To attract sales. If anyone has some display photo's they could share it would be great. I have a woodworking competition happening in March and need some display ideas for that as well. I'm waffling, but would love some help on this. Thanks

There have been quite a few discussions on this very subject with some excellent ideas. A great way of finding those posts is to click on the "Search" word above and type in - booth :)
Let us know if you find what you are looking for.

My pen sales increased dramatically after I made some display stands for them. Just showing them in a display case didn't work as well.

I just use my display cases that I made for storage now. Here is one of them.

The shows I do are just shows where a table is used and not booths. You can set up a booth but i found that if things are on a table you can get more people looking instead of crowding in a booth unless it is a large size. One key factor is to have the catchy things visible and at eye height. People at times are or have tunnel vision.

HI EVERYBODY Can i just add one little observation i made from the craft fairs i have done over the last year.
I have noticed that stalls with the items fairly well spaced out, tend to make more sales.
I know we all like to get as many items as we can, into the available space, which we all pay good money for.
The feeling is that, if you cram everything onto the one table, it can look cluttered. Not only that, but some items which are not in direct sight, and in front of somebody looking, get missed. Also, some items can be partly hidden by other items, so the potential customer looks at the front item, and is then drawn to another prominent item, and misses the others.
At the last fair i did, the lady next to me was selling lovely hand made flowers in nice vases, and had hardly sold anything in the first 4 hours of the fair. The people next to her, got fed up and left early (Which is disgraceful, and not fair on the promoter,or the other stall holders in my opinion).
The lady next to me filled the space with her products, which meant they were well spaced out. She then sold another 6 within the next hour and a half.
Call it a coincidence if you want, but i believe her items looked better, and more appealing for having the extra space around them.
The gist of this is, maybe it is better, subject to cost of course, to pay for the extra display space, rather than completely fill a table with products.
I suppose an alternative to that could be to rotate the stock over the course of the day, as this also gives you something to if it not too busy.
You could go on forever with these ideas, but this is my little input.

I tried 4 times to answer you but found myself wanting to write a book as to what I found but will skip it because I think somewhere I did. I think the key to any good show is diversity. Have different products not just different colors is key to a good sale. This draws more potential buyers because the market is now broader. Also learn to be a salesperson. :)

JT - like your idea about tags. I still use stickers - folks have to handle the piece to see price - of course, this could be either a good thing or bad thing (feel the wood and quality :D or break it :( )

I have been using tags since I started and that came from when I did consignment stuff in malls. I put the price and item number on both sides so if the tag is turned any which way the price is shown. I always encourage people to pick a piece up or I offer to get things down from the wall behind and people always comment on the smoothness of the piece. I pride myself in that part because I have seen others out there that do not take the extra step and sand down to 220 grit and if need be to rub out a finish. It is a petpeeve of mine I guess. The one thing when selling you have to be active because being passive will not land sales. I have learned this over time. You do need to learn to read people's body language for some people want to be left alone to look and others need proding. The greatest observation I have found out about doing shows is a simple thing in that crowds draw sales. You say DUH, but it is true. When there are more than one person looking at something more people come over to see what they are looking at. I do more sales when there is mutiple of people around than one at a time. Here I go writing my book. I will stop and let others join in.
If anyone wants a good synopsis of doing a craft show and what to expect and try to do I can give you a link to a site and there is a posting there that a few of us got together and wrote.

Yes JT . If you let people pick up the item the better off you are in a chance to sell it.I have a competer that hs DO NOT TOUCH signs all over His booth. I let my costumers pick up any thing , I only cauthon them when it is easley broken. If you get 2 or three custumers at once is better, because everybody gets nosey, to see what is so intersting. I find you get more sales when that happens.People will tell me at least I now how well built your stuff is. helps in sales. You got to learn to read people, Some need prodding some need to be left alone. takes a while to learn one from the other. :) :) :) :)

Welcome aboard. Glad you found us. We are a small part of the internet but we like to discuss many aspects of the craft fields especially woodworking. Maybe you can tell us a little about yourself and what you like to do. Do you attend craft shows and what do you sell??? We are friendly so jump right in and join the fun. :)

Do you attend craft shows and what do you sell???
Seems obvious what he/she is trying to sell by the looks of the links supplied at the bottom of post number one of a new member .
I didn't open any of them "just in case" . . . . . . .
Perhaps he /she is also a woodworker though and will post something along that line . Time will tell.

Didn't see that one. I get so used to people putting these things there and I never open any of them. Just can't trust some of these things. Is this the latest way to get spam through???? The one good thing that came out of our change with the format there are more security settings here than the last set up. Will watch this and see if this person replys. In the mean time I highly suggest do not open any of those links.
