Do any of you have a GOOD way to clean a Morse taper. My Delta head stock taper has gotten dirty and kinda rusty over the years. I would stick some sandpaper in there while it is running except I don't think I could keep the wear even. Sure don't want stuff on a taper to be out of center. The tail stock wipes clean, or relatively so, but the headstock is bad. Any suggestion will be most appreciated.

I clean my morse taper with an battery terminal brush, the kind for cleaning top post battery terminals

Thanks - I got one of those, use it on the battery when I change it out or have need to. That I am going to try. Thanks again - Dan

There is a tool called a Taper Mate that comes with instructions for damaged morse tapers. The tool is also used to clean regularly so your problem does nor recurr. Available at Highland hardware, Packard woodworks, and others I'm sure.

I'm gonna have to look up that Taper Mate. Don't ever remember seeing one before. Thanks for the word. The battery brush will do a good job of just cleaning it out. But maybe that tool will do more. Thanks Dan
