This morning I started my first stack-cutting of the new year. 1/4" baltic birch stacked 4 high. After the first few cuts I started having trouble getting the end of the blade up through the 1/16" hole through all layers. :confused:

After saying "golly, shucks, @#$%" a few times, the light came on - why not round over the top of the blade (duhhhhhhhhh). :rolleyes:

So, I took my mighty little Dremel (which had a flapper already mounted) and lightly rounded over the top, sharp edges of the blade. :cool:

Wow - what a difference - blade slips right through the whole without getting hung up on any layers. :eek:

Have never seen this trick discussed and just thought I would share my redneck "fix". :) :D

Have any of you tried this trick?????

Not that this is a can you top this but What I do and this is a Yankee way is grind the end to a point and now it threads through easily. I do this alot on those small #2 blades and the holes is the same size as the blade. What a pain. I like 1/4" holes for a #5 blade and with my eye site going south maybe even a 1/2" hole would be better. :)

I Never thought of rounding the top of the Blade, will try that.

But I do use a Honning stone to round the back of the blade to prevent wood burns in very tight turns.

Your very first post, yea. :) I hope there are many more to follow. Welcome aboard. You might want to stop in the Welcome new members forum and introduce yourself and tell us alittle about yourself. Evidently you are a scroller if you know about rounding your blades backs. It is a good tip and especially if you are doing tight turns in hard woods or woods that burn easily like cherry or maple.

Hi John T.

Yes I'm a Scroller, have two scroll saws I am presently wearing out, also a Delta 14" Lathe and will be picking up a Midi lathe next month probably, just thought I would give my two cents worth.
Will goto the new members forum this weekend and do the intro's {in between the 7 puzzles I have set to scroll tomorrow}

Peace to all
