Satin gold hardware.
Applied CA finish.

You have become very proficient with your pens and now the use of CA as a finish. Job well done. Maybe you can explain a little in the process with a pen of this type. Does the corn cob come as a blank or did you make your own. I have read people making their own but you need a certain corn cob. I guess this applys weather you made your own or it was a blank too, but how was it stabalized or does it have CA already on it???

I can't find any cobs small enough around here or I would stabilize them myself same as I do some free spalted woods .
That cob came form iowacob as a round blank. . You can find him on ebay by typing in his name. He does a good job of stabilizing.
There is no CA on the stabilized cob. The CA is used for the finish only same as on a wood pen. .
Process is the same as turning wood pens but have to use very sharp skew and a light touch to prevent kernel chip out especially on the ends. I had heard about that so I took my time with very sharp skew so it was either good luck or good judgement but it turned without a hitch.

Very nice Bill... First corncob pen I've seen... I wonder how they would work for slimlines...

I doubt if they would work well for slimlines unless you could find some very thin cobs. You would be turning too close to the core of the cob and loose too much of the pattern.
I do however have some ideas I am going to try by using them with a modified slimline approach.
I have ordered a bunch more stabilized cobs and will experiment with that later.

Thanks Guys;
I just received another shipment of resin stabilized corn cobs. Those corn cob pens sell like candy. Now I am almost out of pen kits again and need to order another variety of those plus some more fresh CA for finishing my pens. CA has a short shelf life so I try to never get any more than I am going to use up within 6 months.
Here's a couple of secret compartment key rings I made by using up some short pieces of cob and extending thier length with staghorn sumac.
