I am looking for some unusual wood to make some of my projects out of and I was wondering where some of you get your wood at. Most of the wood I am using now has been sawed by me and my dad on our sawmill. The kinds of wood im looking for now are things like purple heart, Yellow heart, and padouk. if you can, tell me where the best place is to get good hard wood like this at a good price.

Thanks,
Tanner Boster

The first place I would look is for a hardwooddealer within your own area. Check the yellow pages and sometimes people are surprised. If you can find someone local you can save on shipping charges because wood has weight and that is what drives the price up. With that said you can check ebay for there are many sellers that sell exotics. Now if you want and not sure what exactly you are looking for but www.sloanswoodshop.com or try www.heritagewood.com Both very good people to deal with.

I get about 30% of my exotics from an EBay dealer: "Chit's Exotic Hardwood Cache" and I've never been disappointed in the quality of his product. If you email him he can also meet special needs in a lot of cases. Some of the stuff I've gotten from him in the past are padauk, a half dozen varieties of South American rosewood, bubinga, redheart, purpleheart, bocote, ziricote, ebony, and a lot of tropical burls. If you watch his eBay store he frequently posts grab-bags of cutoffs, def sticks etc at great prices.

Thanks. I looked for a dealer clost to me and the closest one is about three hours away. I am thinking of making me order from slon's wood shop. I'll try to look at the ebay stores before i order too.
