A neighbor called me and said to come over to his place after lunch because he thought he might have something I could use.
What a shocker . He gave me all this stuff. Lots of nicely spalted horse chestnut and some white birch and a bunch of antlers.

Second picture is a closer picture of the spalting in some of the horse chestnut.
Should get some nice turnings out of this wood after I mill it down to useable pieces. That is all very dry 6 year old wood .
The large plank at the bottom at the back is also a part of it . Should make some very nice bowls..

Can't wait to get at it but might not be real soon. One son has arrived from Alberta for a weeks holiday at our place and another son is coming next weekend with his family so will be nice to see them and the grandkids again. Family is more important than wood but I will try to get in a few hours to try out a couple pieces from my most recent stash while they are still here..

What a great haul! I've been getting collections of abandoned wood periodically as well and always appreciate being able to make something out of what is normally nothing to the giver.

Here is a small 7" x 1.5" bowl I turned from that nice haul of spalted horse chestnut wood that was given to me today . I believe in USA they call horse chestnut buckeye.
Regardless of what is the right name I can see many dozens of nice turnings coming out of that wood. It cuts like butter with sharp tools and and sands and finishes beautufully.

Well thats too bad...................From the appearance of the finished bowl, you are going to have a fight on your hands. Every time someone sees one of your turnings with that wood, they will want to take them home and leave you with nothing but the memory of your creation. Such a hard life you will have. Oh! well, they will be great memories. Nice work. :) :)

I've never had the opportunity to work with the Chestnut, but thanks for sharing your experience with it.
