This is my 1st post. Right now i am a freshman music major (PEercussion, music ed.)at Slippery Rock University in Pa. i have a love for drums that i cant describe. i also enjoy working with wood. I personally think i wont make it as a music teacher, but i may make it as a drum maker. My grandfather was a carpenter by trade, and he was very skilled at it. Ive already followed in his footsteps in learning the drums, but i want to further it and get into carpentry. does anyone have suggestion on where to go to get guidence, what kind of material (aside from the obvious wood and accessories) like heat presses and so forth would i need, and costs of the machines?

I have already talked to my instructor about it, and i will be attending a huge convention of percussionists. i will hopefully be able to talk to some crafters there, buy i would really like so expertise from the guys who know the general trade.

Thanks,
Mike

i helped my sons, years ago may a traditional native american drum, first making tools that research seemed to prove that the tribes of new mexico would have used. it is still a fond memory after all these years.
