This is an update on my previous message where I turned captive rings with a skew and some other tools that were not the best for the job.

I made these left and right tools for turning rings. They were too big for this particular goblet but I got some experience on how to make them so I will also make a few smaller ones . I blackened the ends with a felt marker to show better in a picture.

Then to try them out I made another goblet. This sure was a lot easier to turn the rings with those tools.

I almost over did the bowl turning part on this one . When holding the bowl part up to the light and looking inside you can see some light showing through the walls of it.

Very nice work Willy... I like the handles too...
What did you use for the hooks and what are the rough dimensions?

The handles are hard maple made from a big bag full of spindles someone gave me in exchange for turning him a honey dipper :) . They are cut off of each end of one spindle.
The handles are about 6inches long and the rest can vary by the size of allen wrench used.. I drilled a hole for the allen wrench and put it in with thick CA and hit it with a shot of accellerator.
Yesterday a seasoned turner did a picture tutorial on my Woodworking Friends site about making those tools so I added it into my Wood Turning Tutorials board and I will be making some more as per his instructions because I heated mine red hot and bent them and apparently shouldn't have. Mine are also too big on the ends for that size of rings.
