The inablity to post messages or stay logged into your account from one page to another is a fairly common problem, so I have decided to make this one thread explaining in detail what you should do to try and correct it.

The problem is related to Cookies & Microsoft Windows security and privacy settings - and - a number of large ISP's (AOL included) who are using an IP pool and constantly changing them throughout a user session. First of all, try following these steps to clear you cookies and temporary internet files...

Step 1: Click "log out" near the top of the page to log out of your account.

Step 2: In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" > "Internet Options...", and then look for the "Temporary Internet Files" section of that window for the "Delete Cookies..." and "Delete Files..." buttons.

Step 3: Click on the "Delete Cookies..." button to delete your cookies, and then click on the "Delete Files..." button to clear your temporary internet files (be sure to check the box that says "Delete all offline content").

Step 4: Close all of the Internet Explorer windows that you have open, and then open up a new window again and return here to the GTP Forums. Log back into your account, browse around and look at a few pages to see if your problem has been fixed.

If you are still experiencing the same problem after following the steps above, it is time to go a bit deeper and see if something else could be causing the problems...

Checking Internet Explorer's privacy settings: In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" > "Internet Options...", and go to the "Privacy" tab. Move the slider that you see down to its lowest level, where you can "Accept All Cookies", and then click "Apply" and then "OK". Now repeat the steps 1-4 as listed above.

Disable cookies on the Forums: Go to your account options and look for the "Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)" and "Browse board with cookies?" options. Set both of these options to "no", and then save your modifications using the button at the bottom of the page.

If you are still experiencing problems after trying all of these suggestions, please contact me, explaining your problem in detail. Also, please include who your ISP is and what type of browser software (i.e. Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) and version you are using. If you are unable to post a new thread, you may contact me via email at webmaster@woodworkingcrafts.com.

Just a note for others that are having the same problem.

I checked out steps 1 thru 4 and didn't have any success. However, as soon as I changed the setting in my accout options everything seemed to work correctlyDisable cookies on the Forums: Go to your account options and look for the "Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)" and "Browse board with cookies?" options. Set both of these options to "no", and then save your modifications using the button at the bottom of the page. also the site now seem a lot more responsive.

Thanks to Admin.

Your patience and help is much appreciated! As I said before this is a great forum.

Have A Fantastic Thanksgiving.

Thanks,

Only turn cookies off in the forums if you're having problems though. This is completely dependent on the ISP that you use as most of them do not change IP numbers throughout a session.

For the majority of users, logging in automatically and browsing with cookies on will be faster and more trouble-free.
