How to make pool cues

Hello all I am new to the board. My father in law is a big turner down in Texas and I once made some pens with him, but now I have bigger fish to fry. He and I are going to attempt making pool cues. I know where to get materials but instructions on the web are limited to wikipedia. The rest you must pay for dvd's or join as an apprentice in a cuemaker's guild/association. It's like Masonic secrets on how to carve stone here. Has anyone ever tried this? If so lets talk

I made a couple of three piece walking staffs a couple of years ago, turning each section seperately. The thing was, balance didn't matter on them. If there's a local woodworking or turning club near you, it wouldn't hurt to join.
