Cut your own from turners stock. I get alot of wood for turning from Woodcraft stores. http://www.woodcraft.com/depts.aspx?DeptID=1038&Dept=True They run alot of 10% discounts so look for those to help with the cost. Plus I have the luxury of having 2 hardwood dealers near me and they carry alot of exotics and domestics. You may want to check your yellow pages and see if you have a hardwood dealer near you too.

John,
Thank you for taking the time to help. I have lots of exotic hardwoods since I make custom pool cues. I was going to use the chess piece blanks(if I can find them :) to make joint protectors out of them for my cues. I thought it would be a neat and different approach but too time consuming to do from scratch.

Mcues:
What is the diameter of the cue at the joint. Pen blanks are normally around 3/4 inch square and available either pre-drilled or solid and in all kinds of woods. Just a thought.

Not sure what you are looking for now. I have those pool joint protectors on my cues and all it would take is a square from your stock. You can match the wood to the cue. That is all chess pieces are, square stock and it is either turned or carved into whatever shape is desired. Like to see some of your cues. There has been discussions here about making cues. If they come up again hope you can jump in.

I have no problem making them, looking for shorcut :) Joint sizes vary from .960 to .930. Thanks for the replies
