OK FOLKS ITS DECEMBER,the season of goodwill and lots of wine for ye gerry mentlemen.
My question is :- has anybody made their own wooden xmas decorations, and if so, what have you made.
I had an idea to make wooden versions of the small decorations you hang on the xmas tree. I thought it would be fun to try some items out, although i guess you would have to be careful about the fire hazard, for anything placed near the xmas tree lights, or especially if anybody tries to sell anything they make.
The other idea that i thought about was ,making wooden card holders for xmas cards,or perhaps a sleigh to fill with nuts, and sit on a coffee table.
Nice ideas, but the bathroom suite needed replacing last month,so nothing got made. Good job there are still lots of xmas times to come.
just another little thought. let us have your ideas
cheers
JOHN

Pending approval of the 'BOSS' I have added pictures of a couple of my Christmas crafts. One is of sleds I make, including a card holder sled. The other is an extension ladder with ELF to decorate your tree with. They are all simple to make and I have had very good luck selling them, especially the Elf Ladders.

Ron, the pictures show some nice work. The ladder I like because that is something that people will like and buy. The sled also, but the ladder is fresh and sleds have been around a while. The demand will taper off on the ladders fairly soon, but by then you will come up with another idea. I get real pleasure out of seeing projects made of simple materials, in a simple manner that meet a need. And I do beleive that Christmas decorations are a need that most everyone has. Thanks Dan

I have written up instructions with some pictures on making the Elf Christmas Tree Ladder, but can't figure how to send it in.
It is in a word file. If you use word and would like a copy, e-mail me at: rscalf@scalfwoodart.com and I will send you a copy.

I just posted to "Dan's Doings" in the Photo section a picture of a Christmas decoration that I made. These are nice, have been around for years but are quick and easy on a band saw. Cut from 2x4 and 2x6 material. Will share patterns with anyone who would like it. (May have to wait for Dean to see the pic first)

Thanks for posting Ron's plans. He has done a great job on these plans. Good project also. Make one for yourself if not to sell. I received a copy of these from Ron a few days ago and was impressed. That is good wook, magazine quality. My pencil marks on a scrap of wood sure don't compare with his. (See attached photo of steps I am building. These are the total plans.) Again Ron, thanks for sharing your work. Dan

I have made a few tree decorations. There are 130 in this pile. Now , the day after Christmas, there are about 35 or 40 of them left over for next year.

I just finished taking down some more of the Christmas decorations and got to thinking. Some of you might be interested in a simple use for those extra AOL cds that show up in the mail. In the attached picture I show first, my front yard with the cd Christmas tree, second and third, how it was made. Wal-Mart has a 25 bulb string, scrap wood, drive screws or nails, and silicone glue were the materials used.
Having fun Dan
If you need bigger pics, I will email them to you.
