I have seen these on ebay and I believe I can guess what it does. I'd just like to ask how it does it? Also could you say copy a taper along a 29in piece with one?

It works on the principle of a pantagraph. In the photo the top cutter is doing the cutter while the bottom guide is following the outline of the object being copied. They are useful for doing spindles, legs, and anything else that you need a large quantity and they must be all the same. But for most turning that is one of a kind they are not used because the nuance is just that, they are one of a kind. You ask can they follow a taper and the answer is yes if you lathe can handle the object being turned. They make different version to fit different lathes but all work on the same principle.

Thank you very much. I will in all likelyhood buy one. That is if they can be removed fairley easily
