HI DOUG I dabble with a bit of woodburning (pyrography if you want to be posh)

I work with a basic set,and only have a few of the basic tips. I do not work the masterpieces in portraits and pictures that a lot of folk do. I prefer to use pyrography to enhance or highlight an image i already have.

I work predominantly with wood of various types. I have tried it out on some bits of leather i have.
It works, but the stench from the burning leather is something else. so dont do it in the house,or she who must be obeyed will complain.

JOHN

HI DOUG Yeah i saw those by casnowyowl. They are terrific bits of work.

I have a couple of pictures of clocks i have made.
Have a look at my pictures under my user name of JABBY.

These were both clocks i made, and used the pyrograph for the markings
They were both good fun and quite easy to do.

Thank you for your nice comments about my woodburning projects. I am still very new to woodburning but enjoy the challenge. I am wondering if you have ever used leather dyes on wood. I have been told by another artist that they work very well but I have not tried them myself. I also burn on gourds and think the leather dyes may work very well. this is a great way to talk to people who share my intrest and really appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks again:) :)

HI CARRIE No i have not used any dyes on woods so far. I have a terrific wood supplies and crafts shop not too far from me. They have a good range of wood dyes, and i have toyed with the idea of using them as an alternative to painting, and to add more variety.

As usual i have not got around to it yet. I am still investigating though. One thing i like to do, is to make sure all the products i use are non toxic and safe for use on kids objects, so i always look to see what it says on the containers.

I do not know how dyes would fit into this. I am still considering it.

I love the forums too, they are a goldmine of information

Hi John:

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Unfortunately finding anything here for woodcrafting or woodburning is very difficult. I have to order most of my supplies from Ktchener. One dye you might be interested in trying is the rit dye used for cloth it works very well on wood. I use the rouged oil technique because I also work on canvas and love the effect.

I am so new at all of this that I really appreciate all the help I can get and this forum really puts me in touch with people that are willing to share their knowledge....I love it.

hope you have a great holiday

warmest regards
:)
