Brand - Coleman Powermate
Solid Brand - Right ? ? ?
Wellllllllllllll, it is no more.

As of a couple of months ago, the Powermate brand went bankrupt. :(
I found that out after my 6 month old air compressor broke a belt.
After many phone calls trying to locate the belt, I finally went back to Northern Tool (where I bought it in the first place).
Quin and I went into the store loaded for bear in dealing with the problem. The store manager took the wind right out of our sales by telling us - "Just bring the compressor back. We know of the problem. We'll swap it out for something else. We'll give you all your money back in the trade."

Picked my broken compressor, went to the store, upgraded to a bigger compressor and different brand, bought extended warrenty on new compressor and brought the new one home.

Forgot to get the manual at the store so last night I looked up the new compressor ;hoping to download the manual.

Industrial Air 30 Gal - guess what - made by Coleman Powermate ! ! ! ! Sure glad I bought the extended warrenty. When this thing breaks, I'll upgrade again. With this kind of luck, I'll have a 150 gallon compressor in a couple of years.

Fred:

I wish I had something constructive to add. Your story reminds me of the decline of Sears and craftsman brand tools.

What's the line?
In the war between Style and Substance,
Engineering and American factories lost the battle
to the Forces of Advertising, slogans, and
"Image is everything" attitude.

{Aside: today, They announced higher un-employment, manufacturing output down, and inflation of food prices are up. Thus, as expected, the stock market bellwether index Dow Jones went UP by about 1%. Again, as expected on such news nowadays.}

Yeh, know what you mean.

Exxon announced record setting PROFITS. Dems want a windfall profits tax. Exxon stock falls because economists KNOW that Exxon PROFIT MARGIN was down.

Oh, I forgot - there are no economists in Congress :(

I feel your pain but have a problem with the belt thing. I must have missed something because just because a compressor breaks a belt is no reason to return it unless it seized which caused the belt to break. There are companies that sell replaceable belts that are comparible I would think. Anyway good luck with the new compressor.
