I did my first craftshow this last friday & saturday. Oh no I think Im hooked.
Not knowing what to expect, my goal for friday was to make back the table fee. Well I did that and then some. Saturday wasnt as busy as friday , but I still did alright. My biggest fear was how my pricing faired. I had alot of compliments on my work, and had several people ask if I used a laser. I had the priveldge on friday to talk with 3 military veterans. One of the gentlemen was a woodcarver. He didnt have a booth but was able to show me pictures of his work. What a talented craftsmen. He invited me to his home to see what he refered to as his woodcarving museum. I was also invited to a juried show and asked to put my ornaments on consignment in a shop. For those considering doing a craftshow, do it. You wont know till you try. Im going to do one more this year on Dec.3

Way to go Todd!
I did my third show this year on Saturday and Sunday. I more than tripled my rental fee, got a couple of special orders and was asked to put some items in the Northern Indiana Art Association's store. Going there after work today!

Good to hear you had a good time and made some money doing it. It is always good to hear the compliments and to have people pay money for something you made with you own hands. I highly recommend anyone to try a show if you haven't already. You get a feel as to how well you are doing by people's reactions. Each show is different and do not get discouraged if the sales are not there. Take in the experience and look around at other crafters and maybe pick up hints as to things that can help you in the future.
I am doing my first show this year next week and it ussually is a good one for me. It has been around for many years. I was disappointed when I found out another one of my shows that has been around for over 25 years is no longer. I am scrambling to find another show and may have to do a smaller show because all the better shows are booked.
Here is some things I ahave been working on to replenish my stock for these sell great for me no matter where. I did make multiples of each so I hope the trend continues. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/JTTHECLOCKMAN/CopyofRecentprojects.jpg

Be careful what you wish for. I too am hooked and now I don't have all the time I want to make the things I want to make. Too busy filling back orders for stuff my wife sold (like 25 Quarter Maps due by December 15th.
Really glad for you on your first show. Best part is talking with other folks and having them appreciate your efforts and talent.
Keep goin, bro

oh, yeh, and then there's the times when you do something "just for the hell of it" and it make you feel good all over. (like giving something you made to some real heroes)

Guys.
Sorry for the delay in responding. Those darn day jobs have a tendency to get in the way. JT and Fred, like usual that is beautiful work. Woodbutcher best of luck with your meeting with the store. JT good luck with your upcoming show. And Fred good luck with those backorders. Im hoping to be in a similar situation sometime. You know, its not really work if you love what you are doing.

Great going!!!
The first show is a real excitement not knowing what to expect. One thing it does do is to hook ya.
Even though I only do the one show a year, I really look forward to it. It is a really great feeling when people come up to you and say " I was hoping you would be back this year"
Enjoy!!!
Keep the blades ahumming!
