I am trying to cover a counter top I built for a customer with the bar top finish. The top is made from 3/4" oak flooring with micro-bevel between the boards. I sanded the top down to 220 grit paper and sealed the top with 3 coats of sanding sealer. Then, I poured a first lift to fill in all of the grooves between the boards. That pour had a few bubbles in it, but nothing serious. Once the epoxy was set, I flooded the top with the product and sat beside it for several hours popping bubbles. It seemed to stop percolating so I went to bed. The next morning, there were major bubbles set in the cured finish. I sanded the top to remove the roughness caused by the bubbles and poured a second lift. It seems that everywhere there were bubbles in the first pour more bubbles appeared in the second pour. I resanded and repoured and I have fewer bubbles, but there are some major ones and I popped bubbles on this thing for 4 hours! It really looks like the bubbles are coming from the wood, not the gassing of the epoxy mixture. Is this true and how can I fix it? I have used this product on ash and walnut and not had any of these issues. If anyone can help, I would be very thankful.
