wood identification

My guess is either elm or a lightly spalted maple.

Depending on the area of the country you are in may help narrow down the type of wood.... I have some black ash from Minnesota that resembles that piece in the picture

It looks like ash to me, but i am in no ways an expert. :)

i live in south western Ontario. i am pulling this stuff out of a barn. they used it on the walls .it's all tongue and groove.
